The Best Winter Wedding Venues in Minnesota

Weddings

January 21, 2021

Winter weddings are truly a favorite of mine! Not only do they help fill my off-season, but they are so unique and gorgeous! I know a winter wedding can be intimidating, especially in Minnesota, but I promise you, there are so many ways to make it beautiful and comfortable for your guests. All you need to do is find the perfect winter wedding venue!

When looking at winter wedding venues, consider their ability for indoor photos. I will always encourage my winter wedding couples to do a lot of photos outside. I promise, it’s worth it! However, having a venue with beautiful indoor options is incredibly desirable. When analyzing a venue for indoor photo potential, you should look for:

  • Large windows (the bigger, the better!)
  • Open spaces (not crammed)
  • White walls

The more light in the space, the better! Here are some of my favorite winter wedding venues in Minnesota because of their lighting, cozy vibes, and indoor photo potential.

My Favorite Winter Wedding Venues in Minnesota

1. Ashery Lane

Ashery Lane‘s white interior and large fireplace make it the perfect backdrop to a cozy winter wedding. This venue is perfect for those looking for a classy, editorial feel mixed with the comfort of a lodge. Also, Ashery Lane is located in Mayer, Minnesota, so it’s closer to the Twin Cities metro than some of the other lodge venue options.

2. Madden’s Resort on Gull Lake

True Minnesotans love the lake, and Madden’s Resort features all the cozy cabin vibes for your winter wedding. Madden’s created the perfect mix of rustic cabin decor with classy wedding venue touches like floor-to-ceiling windows and multiple fireplaces. With Gull Lake falling just a couple hours outside the Twin Cities metro, it’s a great option for a “mini destination wedding” to create a fun weekend away during the winter months. I captured Megan and Brad’s snowy November wedding here, and it’s one of my favorite winter weddings to date!

3. The Hutton House

The Hutton House is the perfect blank canvas to turn into a winter wonderland. Another all white venue, this venue is perfect for indoor or outdoor photos. The large fireplace is a perfect cozy backdrop, and it’s the perfect spot to add holiday-inspired decoration. You can’t go wrong with this venue in any season, but it can become especially warm and inviting in the winter.

4. Grand View Lodge

Similar to Madden’s, Grand View Lodge provides another cozy, comfortable destination wedding up north. This venue is especially gorgeous surrounded by fresh fallen snow. It reminds me of a Currier and Ives painting! If you want a classy, timeless wedding with the comfort of a cabin, look no further than Grand View Lodge!

5. Ivory North

This one is for all of my barn wedding lovers! Ivory North has the unique blend of a barn wedding but with all white backdrops and a modern touch! That’s a wedding photographer’s dream to capture! Paired with snow, this venue creates an all-white winter wonderland. You could couple this venue with a palette of rich jewel tones like emerald green, burgundy, or royal blue, and your portraits will pop beautifully!
