Ali & Jerome: A Love Story Worth the Wait

Ali has dreamed of marrying a French man since childhood. She attended French immersion school and carried that love of language and culture into adulthood. After college, she moved to Paris for a few years, hopeful that romance would find her there. It never quite did. So she moved back to Minneapolis and joined a French-speaking club. That is where she found Jerome.

Their story is the kind that reminds you life has its own timeline. Everything about their wedding honored that journey. A full Catholic ceremony, no first look until Ali walked down the aisle, and all group portraits captured during golden hour. It was intentional, and entirely them.

The Minikahda Club: A Venue That Earns Its Reputation

The Minikahda Club is one of my all-time favorite venues in Minneapolis. Located along Bde Maka Ska, this historic country club carries a quiet elegance that very few venues can match. The architecture is grand without feeling cold. The light is generous, and the grounds offer portrait opportunities that genuinely take my breath away every time I am there.

For Ali and Jerome, the venue was a natural fit. Not only did its European character beautifully reflect Ali’s French background, but it also complemented the overall vision for their day The timeless interiors set the perfect stage for a full Catholic ceremony and a reception that felt refined and warm all at once.

A Wedding That Will Stand the Test of Time

This wedding had a clarity of vision from the very beginning. Ali’s dress was simple and elegant, the kind that will look just as timeless in photographs thirty years from now. Throughout the day, French influences appeared in the details without ever feeling overdone, while the white and soft blue color palette carried seamlessly through every element.

The wedding cake was a masterpiece in classic piped lacework, accented with white roses and touches of blue. The table settings featured gold charger plates, linen napkins, and blue-and-white floral menu cards that felt as though they belonged in a Parisian dining room. Together, these thoughtful details created a cohesive atmosphere where everything felt intentional and refined, from the stationery to the stunning florals by Shelli DeBilzan.

Because there was no first look, the moment Ali walked down the aisle carried real weight. That is the beauty of keeping tradition intact. You only get one true first look at each other. Choosing to save it for the ceremony made the emotion raw and completely genuine.

As the day unfolded, golden hour portraits brought everything together beautifully. The warm light over Bde Maka Ska gave us everything we could have hoped for. The group portraits had that nostalgic, timeless quality I always hope for. In the end, it was the perfect finishing touch to a celebration filled with intention, making this exactly the kind of wedding I love to photograph most.
