Chayla’s downtown Hastings senior session made me fall in love with a new shooting location! I went location scouting in Hastings, Minnesota a few weeks ago for an engagement session. I was so charmed by the historic downtown area, and I knew the variety in the area would be perfect for senior photos! When Chayla and I were discussing where to shoot her senior session, I suggested Hastings. She immediately agreed! As chance would have it, Chayla has cousins in Hastings and grew up visiting frequently! The family tie made it the perfect location for her senior photos.
Chayla and I met years ago when she was a freshman at Eagan High School. She is a fabulous dancer, and I choreograph one of the theater productions at Eagan every year. As we have crossed paths over the years, she and I have formed a bond beyond just our rehearsal time. For years now, Chayla and I have talked about me taking her senior pictures. It’s both exciting and a little sad that her senior year is finally here. I’m so excited to have another year to work with her at Eagan, but I’m sad at the prospect of her graduating next spring. I will miss her both as a student and a friend.
We shot Chayla’s session on a windy but gorgeous summer night in June with the sun shining down over the river. We started our shoot at Vermillion Falls Park, which features an adorable gazebo, some great greenery, and a waterfall! Then, we moved to historic downtown Hastings, and finished our night at Schoolhouse Scoop. The variety of backgrounds we found perfectly complemented her outfits! I’m so thrilled with her downtown Hastings senior session, I just can’t choose a favorite! Let me know your favorite outfit or location in the comments below!
