Szuyin & Chad met in college co-directing Iowa State Dance Marathon, a philanthropic student organization that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. I was fortunate enough to meet Szuyin through a on-campus job and while participating in Dance Marathon for a few years. It is clear, however, that Chad and Szuyin have more in common than just their shared love of dancing and giving back. Every part of their wedding day was personalized, unique, and meaningful. The ceremony was followed by an “Americanized” tea ceremony and traditional Lion Dance; their first dance was one they choreographed together for Dance Marathon; and they were joined at the head table by a cardboard cutout of their cat, Udon. All these personal touches celebrated their love, and it had me crying happy tears on multiple occasions. Despite some chilly, overcast weather, the day was filled with bright smiles and pure joy. I genuinely feel honored to have had the opportunity to photograph this transformation from best friends to husband & wife.
